Stephen Ministry

The Stephen Ministry Program of First United Methodist Church Ministries
will share the love and care of Jesus Christ
to those who are hurting
in our congregation and in the local community.

Trained Stephen Ministers are available to persons who are in need of support during difficult times in their lives (grief, illness, change) to listen confidentially, be a Christian friend and a prayer support. For more information about becoming a Stephen Minister or receiving care, contact the Stephen Leaders by e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Who Are Stephen Ministers

Stephen Ministers are caring lay people, who have undergone specific training to develop their skills to provide Christian care to others.  Stephen Ministers are named for Stephen, the first Christian martyr who cared for the poor.   (His story can be found in the book of Acts.)  Members of our church family are recruited and interviewed by the Stephen Leader Team, then trained to offer confidential, one-to-one, Christian lay care to people in and around our congregation. Stephen Ministers commit to be available as needed for two years, including the initial training, but many serve longer.
